Michael Owen comments on Arsenal style after Everton loss
Michael Owen has his say about Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Everton in the Premier League on Tuesday night
Michael Owen believes that Arsenal struggle to cope with teams who produce physically aggressive displays against them.
Arsenal lost their first game of the season since August on Tuesday night when they were beaten 2-1 by Everton at Goodison Park.
The north London side took the lead in the 20th minute through Alexis Sanchez but were pegged back by Seamus Coleman’s equaliser before half-time.
And Ashley Williams ended up having the final say late on when he scored a winner for the home side.
Former Liverpool striker Owen feels that Arsenal often struggle to deal with teams when they add a physical edge to their game, as was the case at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.
Speaking to BT Sport after Tuesday’s game, Owen said: “I can’t fault the attitude [from Arsenal].
“They fought hard from an Arsenal point of view, but that’s a passing type of fighting hard.
“When you’re talking about physically fighting hard and challenging, well they’re just not designed for that. They’re not a team that plays that way.
“They need to pass a team off the park and when a team gets physical against them they find it harder.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions to trying to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Manchester City on Sunday in what is their final game before Christmas.
