Michael Owen makes big claim about Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of Man United v Tottenham
Michael Owen says that Henrikh Mkhitaryan should be one of the first names on the Man United team sheet
Michael Owen has claimed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan must start for Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Tottenham in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are currently preparing to take on the Lilywhites at Old Trafford fresh from booking their place in the last 32 of the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Zorya on Thursday night.
Mkhitaryan scored his first goal for the club in the second half, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic added a second after half-time to secure the three points.
It was a welcome victory for Jose Mourinho’s men in Ukraine as they sealed their progress to the knockout phase.
Owen has been very impressed by what he has seen from Mkhitaryan in recent weeks and believes that he should be one of the first names on the Manchester United team sheet.
Speaking on BT Sport after Thursday’s game, Owen said: “He would be my first choice in one of three positions. Jose will be picking his team, with Ibra up top and whether it’s left, right or central, he’s my first choice.
“Mata’s had a fantastic season, and they’ve got the pace of Marcus Rashford and the experience and quality of Wayne Rooney.
“You’ve got so many options – Lingard, Martial – but Mkhitaryan would go in first for me.”
Manchester United head into Sunday’s game looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have only won two of their last 10 top-flight games to leave them in sixth place.
