Michael Owen: Only Chelsea and Liverpool can rival Pep Guardiola’s side for title

The former Liverpool striker delivers verdict on the Premier League title race

Michael Owen believes Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are the only Premier League clubs capable of winning the title this season.

Chelsea started the weekend as Premier League leaders thanks to a one-point advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side and the Eastlands outfit.

The Blues won seven successive Premier League games ahead of their trip to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon to hoist them to the top of the table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, suffered a blow after Philippe Coutinho sustained an ankle injury during the first half of last weekend’s 2-0 win against Sunderland.

Pep Guardiola’s side only managed to record three Premier League victories throughout October and November to relinquish control of the title race.

Taking to Twitter ahead of Manchester City’s clash against title rivals Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, Owen discussed what clubs are capable of winning the top-flight crown.

Huge game at The Etihad today. I think only these 2 plus Liverpool can win it this season. I fancy City to come out on top today.
