Michael Owen reacts to Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Man City

Michael Owen has his say after Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday night

Michael Owen hailed a huge result for Liverpool as the Reds beat Manchester City 1-0 to keep the pressure up on Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Liverpool took an early lead against Pep Guardiola’s men at Anfield when Georginio Wijnaldum rose highest to head home Adam Lallana’s cross in the eighth minute.

Manchester City failed to really click into gear at Anfield as Liverpool dominated for spells of the game on Merseyside.

And Jurgen Klopp’s men held on to take all three points and make it a happy new year for Liverpool.

Speaking on BT Sport immediately after the final whistle, former Liverpool striker Owen said: “Liverpool can only do what they can do and they’re absolutely flying at the moment.

“This is a big, big result today. Manchester City didn’t put up much of a fight – I thought it would be a much better game.

“But Klopp won’t care because it’s a massive three points for Liverpool.”
