Micky Quinn: Liverpool will blow Everton out of the water for Netherlands defender
The talkSPORT pundit is backing Liverpool to sign highly-rated Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool will blow Everton out of the water with a big transfer bid for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to Micky Quinn.
The Sun are reporting that Liverpool want to sign the Netherlands international in the January transfer window after the centre-half’s impressive start to the 2016-17 season.
The Reds have managed to keep three clean sheets in 13 Premier League fixtures this season with questions being asked of Klopp’s leaky defence in the title race.
Van Dijk was part of the Southampton side that managed to halt the Liverpool juggernaut last month when the Saints battled to a goalless draw with Klopp’s side at St Mary’s.
However, Liverpool’s derby rivals Everton are thought to be keen on the Dutch centre-half after Ronald Koeman brought Van Dijk to St Mary’s from Celtic in 2015.
Former Newcastle United striker Quinn is tipping Liverpool to flex their financial muscle and to win the battle to sign the 25-year-old defender.
“No, don’t worry about Koeman,” Quinn told talkSPORT as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.
“Liverpool will blow them (Everton) out of the water. That’s what I’ve been told, anyway.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table.
