Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Middlesbrough v Liverpool
The former Liverpool defender is backing Jurgen Klopp's side to beat Middlesbrough on Wednesday night
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool to ease to a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit have endured something of a blip in the Premier League in recent weeks after securing a mere five points from their last four games.
Liverpool started their disappointing run with a goalless draw at Southampton before a 2-0 victory over Premier League strugglers Sunderland.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lost their second top-flight fixture of the season at the Vitality Stadium after a 4-3 loss to Bournemouth earlier this month.
Liverpool failed to return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon following a 2-2 draw with Slaven Bilic’s out-of-sorts West Ham United at Anfield.
Former Reds defender Lawrenson is confident that Liverpool can respond on Wednesday night at Middlesbrough in spite of their recent form.
“Middlesbrough just do not come out and attack teams when they play at home,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“It’s more than them just being well organised – it is amazing how disciplined they are and how they keep their shape, especially their three midfielders.
“The downside of that is that Boro do not pose much of an attacking threat.
“Liverpool usually do, but they were off the boil a bit in their draw against West Ham on Sunday.
“The Reds were guilty of over-playing at times, and trying to walk the ball into the net. They need to start shooting more from outside the area.
“This game will probably be a lot like their defeat at Burnley at the start of the season when they had lots of the ball. Again, the outcome here depends on what they can do with it.”
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League after their disappointing run over the past few weeks.
The Reds finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term.
