Neill Mellor and Ryan Babel were both active on social media during Liverpool's 1-0 win at Everton

Neil Mellor claimed that Ross Barkley should have been sent off for his dangerous challenge on Jordan Henderson during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Everton on Monday’s Merseyside derby clash.

Chances were few and far between in the first half at Goodison Park with neither side managing to register a shot on target.

The second half provided some feisty moments and Barkley’s challenge on Henderson was one of the main talking points as the Everton midfielder escaped with a yellow card.

Replays showed that Barkley caught Henderson on the ankle and the Liverpool midfielder looked to be fortunate to be able to continue.

Sadio Mane then scored the winner for Liverpool deep into stoppage time at Goodison Park to send the travelling fans into delirium.

Former Liverpool man Mellor was not at all impressed by the tackle as he took to social media during the game.

The Reds’ next game is a home clash against Stoke on 27 December in the Premier League.
