Nemanja Matic makes claim about Chelsea signing and Diego Costa

Nemanja Matic says that training alongside Diego Costa will have greatly benefitted Michy Batshuayi

Nemanja Matic has claimed that Michy Batshuayi will have benefitted greatly from training alongside Diego Costa at Chelsea this season.

The Belgian striker has found his first-team opportunities few and far between this season since arriving at the club from Marseille in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, Batshuayi has not yet started a game in the Premier League for Antonio Conte’s men so far this term.

However, the striker could be called upon by Chelsea on Boxing Day when the Blues host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge as Costa serves a one-game suspension.

And Chelsea midfielder Matic feels that Batshuayi will have been benefitting greatly from training with the likes of Costa in recent months.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website, Matic said: “Of course he has benefited from working with him.

“It was the same with me seven years ago. It was very good for me to see how Frank Lampard played, how Michael Ballack played and Michael Essien. So it is good for Michy and a good experience for him to see Diego’s movement.”

Chelsea finished 10th and without a trophy last season after a campaign to forget for the west London club.
