Nemanja Matic sends message to Chelsea fans about Michy Batshuayi

Nemanja Matic is backing Michy Batshuayi to step into Diego Costa's shoes against Bournemouth for Chelsea

Nemanja Matic has told Chelsea fans that Michy Batshuayi is more than capable of filling the void left by Diego Costa in Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

The Blues are set to be without star striker Costa after he picked up a yellow card and a suspension during Chelsea’s clash with Crystal Palace last weekend.

Batshuayi is yet to be given a proper run in the Chelsea first team following his arrival at the club from Marseille in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, the Belgian forward is yet to start a Premier League game for Antonio Conte’s men this season.

However, Serbian midfielder Matic feels that Batshuayi could be given his chance to impress against Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website, Matic said: “He is a great player, he works very hard every day and has a lot of quality for sure.

“We won’t have Diego against Bournemouth but I hope Michy will be the man to decide the game. If he does that it will be good for us.

“He is a great striker, for sure, that is why Chelsea bought him. I’m sure if he gets a chance to score in the next game, he’ll take it.”

Chelsea head into their clash against Bournemouth flying high at the top of the Premier League table.
