Neville praises Chelsea midfielder’s attitude under Conte
The Manchester United legend singles out Cesc Fabregas' performance in a 1-0 win at Sunderland
Phil Neville has singled out Cesc Fabregas for special praise after the Chelsea midfielder’s classy performance in the 1-0 win at Sunderland on Wednesday night.
The Spain international started his third Premier League game of the 2016-17 season at the Stadium of Light since Conte’s appointment as Chelsea manager earlier this year.
Fabregas has impressed in recent weeks after he starred alongside N’Golo Kante in the heart of the Chelsea midfield in their 3-1 win at title rivals Manchester City earlier this month.
The 29-year-old midfielder managed to get on the score sheet upon his return to Conte’s starting line-up after the former Barcelona man guided a first-half winner past Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Fabregas has scored one goal and has made two assists in seven appearances in the English top flight this season.
Former Manchester United defender Neville admitted that he has been impressed with Fabregas’ attitude in recent weeks.
“He scored the winning goal. In the three games that he has been involved in, he set up a goal for Diego Costa against Manchester City, he then came on against West Brom and had a hand in that goal for Costa, and he scored an absolutely fantastic goal at Sunderland,” Neville told Match of the Day on Wednesday night.
On Fabregas’ goal, Neville added: “He doesn’t blast it but he strokes it into the corner.
“He is famous for the runs from midfield and he uses the power of the ball to stroke his finish into the corner. It was a class finish from a class player who has kept his head down and waited for the right opportunity to come in and produce that kind of performance.”
Chelsea are six points clear of second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League table.
