Olivier Giroud credits Mesut Ozil for assist in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Brom

Olivier Giroud praised Mesut Ozil after the midfielder provided the assist for the Frenchman’s winner in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over West Brom at The Emirates on Boxing Day.
Arsenal were looking to end a disappointing two-game losing run in the Premier League following defeats by Everton and Manchester City to leave their title bid in doubt.
Arsene Wenger opted to start with France international Olivier Giroud up front for the visit of the Baggies and the 30-year-old scored a winner with four minutes remaining in north London.
Giroud was starting his first Premier League game of the 2016-17 season after falling behind Theo Walcott in the pecking order at The Emirates this term.
Speaking to BBC Sport after his late winner, Giroud admitted that Arsenal were relieved to secure a valuable three points thanks to his goal to end a two-game losing run in the Premier League.
“It was a very good cross from Mesut Ozil and I just tried to finish the job. Today we were strong together, a strong mentality, it was important to win today and we showed a lot of strength,” Giroud said.
“At home you have to win and even more so after two disappointing results so it was a very important game – we needed the three points. It is a big relief.”
Arsenal are in third place and nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
