Owen Hargreaves: Man United will finish in top four if Jose Mourinho can fix this issue
The former Manchester United midfielder is confident the Red Devils can finish in the top four if they become more clinical
Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United will finish in the top four if Jose Mourinho’s side can become more clinical in the Premier League.
The Red Devils broke the deadlock in the first minute of added time against Crystal Palace after Paul Pogba scored a controversial opener at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.
Palace managed to equalise midway through the second half through Scotland international James McArthur to leave Manchester United facing the prospect of another 1-1 stalemate.
However, the 20-time English champions netted a late winner after Pogba combined with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the former Sweden international guided a finish into the net.
The Red Devils had 16 attempts on Palace’s goal during Wednesday night’s Premier League clash but only Pogba and Ibrahimovic could get on the score sheet despite the visitors’ dominance.
Former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves believes Mourinho’s side need to improve their performance in front of goal if the Red Devils are to secure a top-four spot.
“I actually think United are playing pretty well when you look at the stats. But scoring goals is an issue for Mourinho,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“He [Mourinho] is right, they are actually playing relatively well but they’re not taking their opportunities. If they take them, they’ll be a top four team.”
Manchester United will travel to West Brom in their next Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
