Pat Nevin reacts to Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Stoke
Pat Nevin has his say as Chelsea win a thrilling Premier League contest at Stamford Bridge to make it 13 wins in a row
Pat Nevin heaped praise on Willian and Chelsea for their resilient spirit after the Blues beat Stoke City 4-2 in a Premier League thriller at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Gary Cahill’s opener, but Bruno Martins Indi equalised for the visitors just after half-time.
Willian then fired Chelsea back in front in the 57th minute, but Peter Crouch then scored to make it 2-2 shortly after.
However, Willian then netted his second of the afternoon in the 65th minute to put Chelsea 3-2 up, before striker Diego Costa added a fourth to add gloss to the scoreline.
Speaking during BBC Sport’s live coverage of the came, Nevin said: “Stoke have worked so, so hard. They have always kept chasing, and at no stage have they ever looked like giving up.
“But it’s extraordinary how Chelsea seem to be able to turn it on just when they need to turn it on.
“After the second Stoke equaliser, Chelsea suddenly opted to step it up by a couple of gears.
“Eden Hazard took on a few players then Willian had it laid on a plate for him.”
The win was Chelsea’s 13th in a row in the Premier League and it left the west London side flying high at the top of the Premier League table heading into the new year.
The Blues are unbeaten since their 3-0 loss to Arsenal back in September.
