Paul Merson: Arsenal will really miss this player at Man City
The former Arsenal legend is worried about Shkodran Mustafi's absence
Paul Merson believes Arsenal will feel the absence of Shkodran Mustafi when the Gunners take on title rivals Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
The Germany international missed Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night after Mustafi picked up an injury in the first half of their 3-1 win against Stoke City.
The versatile defender moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from La Liga outfit Valencia in the summer transfer window as Wenger looked to bolster his defensive options.
Mustafi has played in 14 of Arsenal’s 16 Premier League games in the current campaign, only missing their defeats by Merseyside duo Everton and Liverpool in the top flight.
Writing in his Daily Star column, Merson explained why Arsenal will miss Mustafi ahead of their crunch top-four clash with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
“They are really going to miss Shkodran Mustafi,” Merson said.
“He hasn’t lost a game since he been there.
“But if Arsenal lose this game they could suddenly be a long way behind Chelsea and playing catch-up again.”
Arsenal went 14 games unbeaten in the Premier League before a 2-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.
The Gunners finished in second place in the table last season.
