Paul Merson predicts outcome for Chelsea v Bournemouth

The former Arsenal midfielder is backing Chelsea to beat Bournemouth

Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to beat Bournemouth on Boxing Day despite the absence of Diego Costa through suspension.

The Blues have been in imperious form in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season so far after a return of 11 consecutive victories.

Chelsea were 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace last weekend thanks to Diego Costa’s first-half header.

The west London outfit haven’t lost a Premier League fixture since a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.

Bournemouth have lost three of their last six Premier League games to leave Eddie Howe’s side in tenth place in the table.

Writing in his Daily Star column, former Arsenal midfielder Merson delivered his prediction ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Bournemouth.

“I still think they should win it to make it 12 in a row and they should beat Stoke on New Year’s Eve too and have a chance to break the record for a single season at Tottenham,” Merson said.

Chelsea are in first place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of their closest rivals Liverpool after 17 games.

The west London side finished in tenth place last season after a disappointing campaign under Jose Mourinho and his interim successor Guus Hiddink.
