Paul Merson reveals Chelsea’s big weakness in the title race
The former Arsenal midfielder believes Chelsea could struggle to score goals in the title race
Paul Merson believes a lack of goals could cost Chelsea in the Premier League title race.
The Blues have eased to 1-0 victories in their last three Premier League outings after extending their winning run to 11 games after beating West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
Chelsea haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 3-0 defeat by title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Diego Costa has proven to be the west London side’s key players in the 2016-17 season so far after an impressive return of 13 goals in 17 Premier League appearances.
Chelsea are the Premier League’s fourth-highest goal-scorers behind Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Writing in his Daily Star column, Merson claimed that Chelsea’s lack of goals will provide their title rivals with confidence in the second half of the campaign.
“There is a long way to go and other teams will always be in the game against Chelsea because they do not score enough goals,” Merson said.
Chelsea are in first place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Liverpool.
The Blues will host Bournemouth in their next Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.
