Paul Merson sends blunt message to Arsenal boss about duo’s contracts

Paul Merson says Arsenal must sign Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to new contracts as soon as possible

Paul Merson has told Arsene Wenger not to waste any more time in getting Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to sign new contracts with Arsenal.

The duo’s futures have been a source of speculation in recent weeks as they both entered into the final 18 months of their deals at The Emirates.

There is yet to be any official announcement from Arsenal but both players are believed to be in talks with the Gunners about the possibility of extending their deals beyond the summer of 2018.

Sanchez has been in fine form for Arsenal and has already hit 11 Premier League goals this season, while Ozil netted the Gunners’ second goal in their 3-1 win over Stoke on Saturday.

And former Arsenal star Merson has warned Wenger that he must get the pair to commit their futures to the club as soon as possible.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Merson said: “They need to get these two players signed up in my opinion – for me, they have to sign these two.

“They are their best players by a mile and if they don’t sign them up, I don’t know where Arsenal go from there.”
