Paul Merson snubs Paul Pogba as Arsenal legend names Man United’s best player
The Arsenal legend questions Manchester United's record signing Paul Pogba
Paul Merson admits he still has his doubts about Paul Pogba, adding that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is comfortably Manchester United’s best player.
The Red Devils signed the Armenia international in a £30m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho spent a world-record £89m on Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in August as the new Manchester United manager gave his midfield a face lift.
The France international has scored two goals and has made one assist in 12 Premier League games in a solid if unspectacular start to his Old Trafford career.
However, Mkhitaryan has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in the Manchester United manager’s first-team after one start and three substitute appearances.
But the ex Dortmund man was named the club’s man of the match for his performance in a 4-1 victories over Feyenoord and West Ham in the Europa League and the League Cup.
While Merson questioned Pogba, the former Arsenal midfielder lavished praise on Mkhitaryan.
“It will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho plays Paul Pogba [against Everton],” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I think they moved the ball quicker without him in the team. Sometimes he slows the play down, although he’s not playing in his proper position.
“I’m still unsure about Pogba, especially as I’m such a big fan of Henrik Mkhitaryan – he’s their best player, by a long way. He’s different gravy.”
