Paul Scholes reacts to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s display in Man United’s win at Zorya
Paul Scholes has his say on Henrikh Mkhitaryan's recent form for Manchester United
Paul Scholes believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan offers more to Manchester United than Juan Mata following his recent displays.
The Armenia international continued his strong form on Thursday night when he scored Manchester United’s opening goal in their 2-0 victory over Zorya to book their place in the last 32 of the Europa League.
Mkhitaryan had endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford following his move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window as he struggled for form and fitness.
However, the 27-year-old is now showing glimpses of his ability as he continues to find his feet in English football.
He scored United’s opener in the 48th minute, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic added a second late on to secure the Red Devils’ progress.
And Scholes gave his honest verdict on Mkhitaryan’s display after the final whistle on Thursday night.
Speaking on BT Sport immediately after the game, Scholes said: “Three or four weeks ago I thought it was a matter of time before you get him playing and he will start producing.
“And we are seeing that now with a little run of games he’s producing.
“What he has different from Mata is that bit of pace. Mata’s got the trick, has he quite got the pace to go past people?
“I don’t think he has, I think Mkhitaryan has got the trick and the pace to go past people and produce what he did tonight.”
Manchester United now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their home clash against Tottenham on Sunday.
