Per Mertesacker issues Arsenal injury warning to Alexis Sanchez

Per Mertesacker warns that Arsenal must do their best to keep Alexis Sanchez fit in the coming weeks

Per Mertesacker has warned Arsenal that they must be cautious with Alexis Sanchez to make sure that he does not pick up an injury around the hectic festive period in the Premier League.

The Chile international has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season and once again proved his worth to the north London club when he scored a hat-trick in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over West Ham United at the weekend.

Sanchez has already scored 11 goals and made four assists in the Premier League this season to help Arsenal up to second place in the table and three points behind leaders Chelsea.

The former Barcelona star was forced to miss part of the festive period last season after picking up a muscular injury.

And Mertesacker believes that the north London side need to be cautious with how they use Sanchez in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Mertesacker said: “He does whatever he wants to do in training and he’s pretty much unpredictable.

“At times I think we need to be cautious with him.

“He had an injury at around this time last year but the team we have here are doing a good job of making sure he is ready and fit to play.”
