Phil Jones delivers verdict on Man United partnership with Marcos Rojo
The Manchester United defender says he is developing a growing understanding with Marcos Rojo
Phil Jones has talked up his flourishing centre-half partnership with Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo.
Jose Mourinho has been forced to use the unlikely combination in recent weeks following injuries to key defenders, such as Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.
The Ivory Coast international returned to the Manchester United first-team for their 2-0 win against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League last week but Jones and Rojo retained their place in Mourinho’s side for the visit of Tottenham on Sunday.
Manchester United’s 1-0 win against top-four rivals Spurs was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since a goalless draw with Burnley at Old Trafford in October.
Speaking to United’s website about his partnership with Rojo, Jones stated that he is confident the pair can improve their understanding in the coming weeks and months.
“I think we’re getting a really good understanding with each other – I know his game, he knows mine and we’re complementing each other well at the moment and long may it continue,” Jones said.
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season, which resulted in Mourinho being named as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May.
