Phil Jones: This is what it’s like playing for Jose Mourinho at Man United

Phil Jones admits that he is relishing life under new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

Phil Jones has admitted that he is relishing life under new manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

The Red Devils defender is currently getting to grips with life under the Portuguese coach following his appointment as the club’s new manager in the summer.

It has been something of a mixed start to life for Mourinho since his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May. The Red Devils initially struggled to find form in the Premier League but have now won their last three top flight games on the spin.

However, Manchester United still trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by a staggering 13 points heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.

Jones has been in impressive form in Manchester United’s defence in recent weeks.

And the English defender has lifted the lid on what it is like to work under Mourinho on a daily basis at Carrington.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Jones said: “It’s brilliant [working with Mourinho].

“He’s shown a lot of confidence and belief in me and hopefully I’m repaying that.

“I’m not a player who needs telling every day in training ‘you’re brilliant, you’re this, you’re that’… but it’s always nice to hear comments from the manager and people around that you’re doing well.

“I’m not under any illusions though, in this game you can be up there one minute and down the next, so I need to keep going game by game and keep improving.”
