The Arsenal midfielder has mixed emotions ahead of his return to Basel on Tuesday night
Granit Xhaka is preparing for a night of mixed emotions in the Champions League as the Arsenal midfielder gears up to face his former club Basel.
The Switzerland international started his professional career at Basel before the defensive midfielder moved to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012.
Xhaka scored two goals in 61 appearances in all competitions during a two-year stay at the Swiss club before his move to Germany.
The Arsenal signing’s brother Taulant is current a member of the Basel squad and the pair faced each other in the north London side’s 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season.
And Xhaka posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following heartfelt caption ahead of Tuesday night’s clash:
“👉Hey Basel, your boy has come back again. The most emotional matchday ever tonight. Playing against the team where l was born as a player, in the stadium where everything started and the third time for this year that I play against my brother gives me a special feeling. @uefachampionsleague @fcbasel

Xhaka moved to Arsenal in a £33m deal from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal will need to better Paris Saint-Germain’s result to finish top of Group A as the Ligue 1 champions host Ludogorets in the French capital.
