Georginio Wijnaldum was happy to catch up with his Netherlands team-mate on Tuesday night after Liverpool were 4-1 winners against Stoke City at Anfield.

The Reds made a conspicious start to their Premier League clash after Republic of Ireland striker Jonathan Walters broke the deadlock in the 12th minute.

However, Adam Lallana cancelled out the Irishman’s opener with a superb close-range finish before Roberto Firmino edged Liverpool into a 2-1 lead.

Giannelli Imbula inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper in the second half before Daniel Sturridge sealed three points after he capitalised on Ryan Shawcross’ mistake.

Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum sent a message to Netherlands and Stoke winger Afellay after the Merseyside outfit’s 4-1 win against the Potters.

Wijnaldum posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“After a slow start we managed to get the 3 points good win thanks for the support!! It was also good to see my friend @ibrahimafellay”

Wijnaldum moved to Liverpool in a £25m deal from relegated Newcastle United in the summer transfer window as one of Jurgen Klopp’s seven signings.
