Memphis Depay had the chance to meet heavyweight boxing champions Anthony Joshua on Tuesday
Memphis Depay has thanked Anthony Joshua for inspiring the Manchester United midfielder after the winger met the IBF heavyweight boxing champion on Tuesday.
The Netherlands international is facing a battle to salvage his Red Devils career after a disappointing 18 months at Old Trafford following his £30m move to Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Memphis managed to score a disappointing two goals in 29 Premier League appearances under his former Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford last term.
The Dutch forward’s fortunes haven’t improved under Jose Mourinho despite the Portuguese coach replacing Van Gaal in the summer.
Memphis has made just four Premier League appearances – all as a substitute – in the 2016-17 season so far.
However, Joshua appeared to inspire Memphis after the Under Armour ambassadors met ahead of the heavyweight boxer’s bout against Eric Molina.
Memphis wrote on Instagram:
“Great inspiration you are champ! It was a pleasure meeting you, I really enjoyed our talk @anthony_joshua #TeamUA #IWill 💯🗣🙏🏽💪🏾👊🏾”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind leaders Chelsea after 14 games.
