Virgil van Dijk posed in a Manchester City shirt on Christmas Day amid ongoing speculation surrounding the Southampton defender’s future at St Mary’s.
The Netherlands international has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best centre-halves this season which has inevitably led to speculation linking the Saints man with a move to one of the Premier League’s top clubs.
Liverpool were touted as potential contenders to sign the Southampton man earlier this season as Jurgen Klopp’s side were criticised for their poor defensive record.
The Merseyside outfit’s bitter rivals Manchester United were rumoured to be interested in the centre-half following injuries to Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling in recent weeks.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester City were also reported to be in the race to sign the Dutch centre-half ahead of the January transfer window.
And one of Van Dijk’s team-mates decided to have some fun after the Netherlands star was presented with a Manchester City shirt from Secret Santa.
Southampton captain Jose Fonte posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote:
