Pundit issues challenge to Tottenham Hotspur this season
Matt Le Tissier is challenging Tottenham to go and win the Europa League this season
Matt Le Tissier believes that winning the Europa League represents one of Tottenham’s best hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Spurs were parachuted down into Europe’s second tier club competition after they finished third in their Champions League group following a disappointing run.
Tottenham were one of the Premier League’s standout teams last season and booked their place in the top four as they ended up third in the table last term.
However, the competition for a top-four finish this term in the Premier League looks set to be fiercer than ever as the season unfolds.
And former Southampton star Le Tissier feels that Spurs have a great chance of reaching the Champions League by winning the Europa League this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon, Le Tissier said: “I think they’re one of the best teams in it [the Europa League].
“They can get themselves back in the Champions League by winning it because they’re not guaranteed a top-four finish.
“They need to keep as many options open as they can to try and get Champions League football for next season.”
Tottenham were Leicester City’s closest challengers for the Premier League title last season before they ended up behind Arsenal in the table.
