Pundit refusing to judge Arsenal in the title race until February
Richard Dunne says we will only know whether Arsenal will challenge for the title in February
Richard Dunne says that it would be foolish to judge Arsenal’s hopes of winning a major trophy this season until the new year.
The north London side have earned plenty of praise for their impressive performances in recent weeks as they moved towards the top of the Premier League table and also topped their Champions League group.
Arsenal came from a goal down to beat Stoke City 3-1 at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon to keep to within three points of Premier League leaders Chelsea after 15 games of the new campaign.
The Gunners are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
However, former Republic of Ireland international Dunne feels that it is too early to determine whether Arsenal are one of the favourites for the title and says Arsene Wenger’s men should not be judged until February, when they have struggled in the past.
Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday, Dunne said: “They’re always in this position every year.
“They do great, and then they get to February and fall apart.
“That’s when we’ll see if they do have the steel and they are a strong squad this year.”
Arsenal travel to Everton on Tuesday night.
