Pundit: This unsung Arsenal star should get more praise
Garth Crooks heaps praise on Hector Bellerin for the impressive form he has shown for Arsenal this season
Garth Crooks believes that Hector Bellerin does not get the praise he deserves for his impressive performances for Arsenal.
The Spaniard is quickly earning a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top defenders at The Emirates and Bellerin recently committed his future to the north London side by signing a new long-term contract at the club.
Bellerin has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team this season and is now usually seen as one of the first names of the team sheet for Arsene Wenger.
The full-back was once again in impressive form as Arsenal beat West Brom 1-0 at The Emirates on Boxing Day thanks to Olivier Giroud’s late goal.
And Crooks was hugely impressed by Bellerin’s display against the Baggies on Monday afternoon.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “Bellerin is a defender but one who does as much as any player on the field to affect the score line.
“Arsenal are always better when he’s in the side. Constantly raiding down the right-hand side of West Brom’s defence, the Spaniard was instrumental in helping Arsenal grind out a 1-0 victory.
“Is it any wonder Arsene Wenger is so delighted to have recently signed Bellerin on a long-term contract? The Arsenal manager has firmly slammed the door shut in the faces of suitors Barcelona and Bayern Munich.”
Bellerin will be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Crystal Palace at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
