Pundit: This unsung Chelsea man has shown amazing grace, he’s been outstanding
Garth Crooks has been extremely impressed by Cesc Fabregas' performances and attitude at Chelsea this season
Garth Crooks has claimed that Cesc Fabregas has been one of Chelsea’s outstanding performers this season.
The Spanish midfielder has had to settle for a bit-part role in the Chelsea team this term following Antonio Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager over the summer.
Fabregas’ first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge have been limited partly due to the fact that the Blues brought in midfielder N’Golo Kante from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
However, the 29-year-old has been ready to step up when called upon by Conte, like he did during the 3-0 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.
And Crooks has been extremely impressed by Fabregas’ attitude and performances for the Blues this season.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “It is at times like this that managers observe those players who are not making the team on a regular basis but who nevertheless have a role to play if their attitude remains right.
“Cesc Fabregas has been central to so many successful campaigns over the years and it must be rather difficult to accept that your services are not in the same demand as they once were.
“Nevertheless, Fabregas has accepted this fact with amazing grace and produced some outstanding performances for Chelsea when called upon.
“The game against Bournemouth was one of those fixtures. This must be in part down to Antonio Conte who is displaying some remarkable man management skills.
“Against Bournemouth Fabregas was responsible for instigating many, if not most, of the attacks Chelsea enjoyed on the day. Given room, the Spaniard will kill you with his passing ability. Unfortunately for Bournemouth that’s precisely what he did.”
Fabregas will be hoping to feature once again when Chelsea return to Premier League action with a home clash against Stoke City on Saturday.
