Pundit: Why Liverpool won’t catch Chelsea in Premier League title race

Former Man United midfielder and Newstalk pundit Johny Giles doesn't expect Chelsea to slip up in the title race

Liverpool and Manchester City don’t have the consistency to catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race, according to Johnny Giles.

The Blues have looked imperious in the Premier League since a 3-0 loss to title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.

Chelsea won their 12th straight game in the Premier League by beating Bournemouth 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

The west London side have kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League club in the current campaign so far.

Liverpool conceded 20 times in 17 games in the Premier League but Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to be beaten 11 times this term.

Manchester City, meanwhile, also shipped 20 goals in their opening 17 fixtures under new manager Pep Guardiola.

Speaking to Newstalk about the Premier League title race, Irish pundit Giles backed Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season.

“The way Chelsea are playing and the way Antonio Conte has his defence organised, I can’t see them slipping up,” Giles said.

“The only way they could slip up is with injuries and then Liverpool have to take advantage of it. Liverpool don’t have the consistency that Chelsea have. Neither do Manchester City. Neither side has their defence organised like Chelsea.”

Chelsea finished in tenth place last term and two spots behind Liverpool.
