Ray Wilkins: This Man United signing the type of personality Jose Mourinho needs
The former Manchester United midfielder discusses the impact of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Old Trafford
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the type of personality that Manchester United require at Old Trafford, according to Ray Wilkins.
The former Sweden international completed a free transfer to the Red Devils from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Ibrahimovic has scored 11 times in 16 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far after his summer move from PSG.
In fact, the 35-year-old has netted an incredible 10 times in his last nine appearances in all competitions to help to trigger a three-game winning run in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho took over the reins at Old Trafford in May following their fifth-place finish under his predecessor Louis van Gaal in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast, Wilkins explained why Ibrahimovic is such a key personality in Mourinho’s Manchester United squad ahead of the visit of Sunderland on Boxing Day.
“Ibrahimovic seems to have got a little bit of his form back. He can’t stop scoring. He is a fantastic personality,” Wilkins said.
“He is the type of personality that Manchester United need. When you’ve got those personalities, the other players will start performing around them.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and four points behind Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
