Ray Wilkins: What’s really impressed me about Chelsea midfielder
The former Chelsea midfielder has been impressed with Cesc Fabregas' attitude despite a lack of first-team football
Ray Wilkins admits he has been impressed with Cesc Fabregas’ attitude in the Chelsea squad despite a lack of first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international has been limited to a mere four Premier League starts in the 2016-17 season so far following the appointment of Antonio Conte as manager.
Fabregas has still managed to have a positive impact on the west London side’s title bid after a return of one goal and three assists in the current campaign.
The World Cup winner has been stuck behind in France international N’Golo Kante and Serbia defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic in the 2016-17 season.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins has praised Fabregas for remaining quiet and working on winning his place back.
“Cesc Fabregas will come back in. Whenever he is called upon, he plays exceptionally well,” Wilkins told The Alan Brazil Up Front podcast.
“I have the utmost admiration for Fabregas because it’s pretty easy for these top players to start spitting their dummy out when they’re not playing, but he hasn’t.
“He has got on with his game and he looks absolutely outstanding.”
Fabregas moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Spanish midfielder won his first Premier League title in his first season as a Chelsea player under Jose Mourinho.
