Richard Keys makes bold prediction about Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson

Richard Keys has suggested that Manchester United could bring in Sir Alex Ferguson if Jose Mourinho were to leave the club this season

Richard Keys has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson could step in for Manchester United should Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford be cut short.

The Portuguese coach has found himself under pressure at Old Trafford since his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.

Indeed, United have only won two of their last 10 Premier League games to leave them a staggering 13 points behind leaders Chelsea after 14 matches of the new season.

Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s permanent successor at Old Trafford back in May and signed a three year contract with the Red Devils.

However, former Sky Sports presenter Keys has suggested that Ferguson could be brought in to help “steady the ship” should Mourinho be given his marching orders within his first season at Old Trafford.

Writing in his personal blog, Keys said: “If Mourinho fails, what then? I wonder. I wonder if history could repeat itself and Fergie might step back in?

“I’m not suggesting that would be a long term solution, but it might steady the ship.

“No, you’re right, that could never happen. Oh, hold on – do I remember a guy called Sir Matt Busby?”

Manchester United are currently preparing to host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
