Rio Ferdinand: Man United can beat Chelsea to the title this season

Rio Ferdinand is refusing to rule Manchester United out of the Premier League title race this season

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Manchester United still have a chance of winning the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils currently find themselves trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by six points after a stuttering start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho.

However, Manchester United have shown signs of improvement in recent games and have won their last three games on the spin in the top flight.

Mourinho’s men find themselves in sixth place in the top flight table heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.

Despite conceding that next season could be Manchester United’s better chance of winning the title, Ferdinand says the Red Devils are one of six teams in with a shout of lifting the trophy in May.

Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, Ferdinand said: “I think next season will be the more important one for United.

“They’ve spent big this summer and they’ll probably reinvest again next summer and go again the following season.

“This season, though, any one of six teams is capable of winning the league and United are in that mix.

“We need to keep being consistent and keep up a run of games where we build up confidence and get points on the board.”
