Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he was impressed by Arsenal’s professional performance after they thrashed Basel 4-1 to top their Champions League group.
Arsenal took the lead in the eighth minute when Lucas Perez tapped home from close range.
The summer signing then doubled the visitors’ lead shortly after with a similar finish, before completing his hat-trick after the break.
Alex Iwobi then added a fourth, before Seydou Doumbia scored a consolation for the home side.
Arsenal ended up top of Group A after Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 2-2 draw by Ludogorets in Paris.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was extremely impressed by what he saw from Arsenal against Basel.
Speaking on BT Sport immediately after the final whistle, Ferdinand said: “We spoke about momentum and confidence beforehand – this will do this Arsenal team the world of good.
“It’s the mentality thing we’ve probably doubted over the last couple of seasons.
“But to go there and put a professional performance in and score some goals is very good – and it bodes well for this Arsenal side for me.”

Arsenal will now turn their attentions straight back to Premier League affairs and their home clash against Stoke City in the top flight on Saturday.
The Gunners are currently second and three points behind leaders Chelsea.
