Rio Ferdinand replies when asked if he thinks Alexis Sanchez will stay at Arsenal

Rio Ferdinand gives his insight into Alexis Sanchez's future at Arsenal beyond 2018

Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Alexis Sanchez is likely to want to stay at Arsenal after failing to establish himself at Barcelona.

The Chile international has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top strikers since arriving at the north London club from Barcelona in the summer of 2014.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form in recent weeks and scored a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 5-1 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday night.

Sanchez has 18 months left on his current contract with the north London side and is thought to be in talks with the club about extending his current deal.

And Ferdinand has given his take on what he thinks Sanchez will be pondering as he looks to negotiate a new contract at The Emirates.

Asked whether he thinks Sanchez will stay at Arsenal, Ferdinand told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show: “It depends what he wants.

“He’s been at Barcelona – he had that opportunity to go to a team that was winning and it didn’t happen for him.

“Here [at Arsenal] he’s the main man, the talisman. He might want that for his ego.”

Sanchez has now scored 11 goals and made four assists in the Premier League for Arsenal this season.
