Rio Ferdinand: This Man United trio are showing what they can do
Rio Ferdinand has been impressed by what he's seen from Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba in recent games
Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United have been a more balanced team since Jose Mourinho settled with a midfield trio of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils initially struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League following Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
However, the Red Devils have won their last three games in the top flight to show some encouraging signs heading into the hectic festive period in Premier League.
Manchester United still trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 13 points heading into their home clash against Sunderland on Boxing Day.
However, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand feels that Manchester United have shown some strong signs of improvement since Mourinho settled on his first-choice midfield trio.
Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, Ferdinand said: “I don’t think Jose knew his best team for a while but in the last few games you’ve seen him consistently starting the three midfielders of Herrera, Carrick and Pogba and I think you’ve seen a better balance in the midfield, so hopefully we can start motoring on now.
“That’s been a problem in the past in terms of working out where the balance is and who the best partnerships and combinations are, and I think he may have found that in those three. It frees up Paul, who’s a bit more of a maverick, and means he can roam a bit more.”
Manchester United finished fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season under Louis van Gaal.
