Robbie Savage makes bold claim about Man United signing’s goal
The former Leicester man claims that Man United signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored the goal of the season
Robbie Savage has claimed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the best goal of the 2016-17 Premier League season so far in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Sunderland.
The Armenia international scored his second Premier League goal of his Manchester United career so far on Boxing Day after the attacking midfielder netted the home side’s third goal at Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan acrobatically scissor kicked his effort past Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked out his fellow summer signing in the Black Cats area.
The 27-year-old moved to Manchester United in a £30m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window after Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor.
Former Leicester City midfielder Savage has described Mkhitaryan’s effort as the pick of the goals in the Premier League so far this term.
“What a goal. I think I saw it in training – maybe Ravel Morrison. That’s the goal of the season. Yes he was in an offside position. It was a goal of the season so far,” Savage told BBC’s 606 podcast.
Mkhitaryan opened his Manchester United account with a late strike in a 2-0 win against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.
The Armenian midfielder netted his first Premier League goal in a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
