Robbie Savage praises Liverpool for surprising stat after 1-0 win at Everton
The former Leicester City midfielder points out a surprising Liverpool stat
Robbie Savage was quick to highlight Liverpool’s impressive defensive record in recent weeks after Monday night’s 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.
Sadio Mane scored an added-time winner to seal three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side and hoist the Reds above Manchester City in the Premier League table.
Second-placed Liverpool are six points adrift of current leaders Chelsea in the title race ahead of the visit of Stoke City at Anfield next Monday.
The 18-time English champions have been heavily criticised for their poor defending over the past few weeks after a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw with West Ham United.
Klopp opted to replace Loris Karius for their 3-0 win at Middlesbrough as Simon Mignolet came back into the Liverpool side before their 1-0 triumph in the Merseyside derby.
However, Savage was keen to point out that Liverpool have now managed to keep five clean sheets in their last seven Premier League games despite criticism of their defence.
“They defended well too. For Liverpool to stay in the title race they had to win tonight – and it’s their fifth clean sheet in seven,” Savage told BBC Sport.
