Robbie Savage: What Arsenal did better than Chelsea
The former Leicester midfielder was impressed with Arsenal's performance against West Brom despite winning just 1-0
Robbie Savage has praised Arsenal for a better performance than Chelsea against a stubborn West Bromwich Albion side on Boxing Day.
The Baggies managed to thwart the Premier League leaders until the 82nd minute after Diego Costa dispossessed Gareth McAuley before firing past Ben Foster earlier this month.
West Brom made the trip to another of London’s big clubs on Boxing Day as Tony Pulis’ men faced an Arsenal side that had lost their last two Premier League games to Everton and Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger’s side didn’t make the breakthrough until the 86th minute when Mesut Ozil crossed for Olivier Giroud to score a late winner at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners had a staggering 26 shots on West Brom’s goal during the Premier League clash, while Chelsea only managed to muster 12 shots.
Former Leicester City midfielder Savage praised Arsenal for creating more opportunities against West Brom than Chelsea.
“Chelsea – who are seven points clear of Manchester City – played West Brom a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t break West Brom down until McAuley made a mistake and Costa pounced,” Savage told BBC’s 606 podcast.
“I’ve got to say, Arsenal created more chances against West Brom than Chelsea did and both had the same scoreline.”
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and six points ahead of their closest rivals Liverpool.
Arsenal are nine points adrift of Chelsea in the title race.
