Ryan Giggs issues warning to Marcus Rashford at Man United
Ryan Giggs has some advice for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United this season...
Ryan Giggs has warned Marcus Rashford that he is likely to have to continue to play as a winger to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Manchester United team.
Rashford has earned plenty of praise since breaking into the Red Devils team under Louis van Gaal last season and was even rewarded for his fine form with a call-up to the England squad at Euro 2016.
However, Jose Mourinho has opted to play summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front for the Red Devils for most of the campaign, meaning that Rashford has had to get used to playing on the wing for the club.
And Giggs believes that it is completely normal for Rashford to be asked to play out wide to accommodate some of the more senior players in the Red Devils side.
Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Giggs said: “Marcus will be a centre-forward one day and that is his strongest position.
“But it is natural that at his age he is asked to fit in around more established players – it was no different for me.
“He will know that he needs to spend time adjusting his game to playing wide.
“That might mean asking one of his team-mates from the development squad to play as a defender against him after training while he tries to get crosses in, and also learning the defensive positions that he has to take up.
“For young lads in this position it is often something that you have to push for yourself.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
