Ray Wilkins states prediction for Southampton v Tottenham
The former Chelsea midfielder believes Southampton could peg back Tottenham next Wednesday
Ray Wilkins is backing Southampton to secure a point against Tottenham Hotspur at St Mary’s next Wednesday.
The Lilywhites have started to find some form in the Premier League in recent weeks to kick-start their title bid.
Tottenham were 3-0 winners against Swansea City at White Hart Lane thanks to Christian Eriksen’s double against the Welsh side.
Spurs eased a 2-1 victory over Burnley in north London last weekend thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Danny Rose.
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table but Spurs are a point behind Arsenal, who are in the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast, former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins tipped Southampton to get a point against Tottenham.
“They’ve drifted right out of the points with the top boys. They’re 10 short of Chelsea at the moment – we’re not even at Christmas,” Wilkins said.
“It’s a tough season for them.
“With Southampton, you never know what you’re going to get. They can’t put two games on the spin. Defensively Southampton will be good enough, whether they can outscore Tottenham, I don’t know. I think a draw here.”
Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season after challenging champions Leicester City throughout much of the campaign.
Spurs signed five players in the summer transfer window, including Kenya international Victor Wanyama.
