Stan Collymore compares Liverpool to famous Premier League side
Stan Collymore has likened Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side to Kevin Keegan's famous Newcastle United of the 1990s
Stan Collymore has highlighted the similarities between Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side and Kevin Keegan’s memorable Newcastle United outfit in the 1990s.
The Reds are the Premier League’s leading goal-scorers after netting an incredible 35 times in 14 games in the 2016-17 season so far.
However, Liverpool have conceded more goals than their title rivals after shipping 18 goals in the current campaign.
The Reds managed to squander a two-goal cushion to lose 4-3 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon after the Cherries netted three times in the final 16 minutes.
Former Liverpool striker Keegan famously led Newcastle to the cusp of Premier League title glory with their exciting brand of football before Manchester United pipped the Magpies to the title.
And Collymore, who scored a memorable winner against Newcastle at Anfield during that campaign, explained why Klopp’s current side remind him of Keegan’s outfit.
“Other than that my concern is Liverpool remind me of Newcastle’s entertainers of the 90′s,” Collymore told BoyleSports.
“Great football, excitement all the way through the team but just too naive and too porous to have enough to beat a Chelsea for example over a 38 game season. Conte isn’t as rock and roll as Klopp, but boy does he address deficiencies quickly and that my friends wins titles.”
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and four points adrift of leaders Chelsea after their 4-3 loss to Bournemouth.
