Steven Gerrard: How Antonio Conte has transformed Chelsea
Steven Gerrard believes Antonio Conte is rewarding his Chelsea players who have been producing in his side
Steven Gerrard says Antonio Conte has given the Chelsea squad a fresh start following his appointment earlier this year.
The Premier League leaders extended their winning run to 11 games on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in the London derby at Selhurst Park.
Diego Costa netted his 13th goal of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign to seal three points for the west London outfit in the first half of their clash at Palace.
Chelsea have now collected 33 points from their last 11 Premier League games, including victories over title rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Conte’s side haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, Gerrard explained how Conte has managed to get the Chelsea players onside and transform the Blues in title contenders.
“He’s not scared to make big decisions,” Gerrard said.
“He could easily have put John Terry straight back into the team. He’s basically rewarding players for good performances. Victor Moses is the prime example: he was out of the picture on loan and now he’s one of their best players. That’s because the manager’s come in and given everyone a fresh start. They’re getting the rewards for that now.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season after a disappointing defence of their top-flight crown.
