Steven Gerrard reacts to Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Man City

Steven Gerrard praised Liverpool for their performance as they beat Manchester City 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday

Steven Gerrard praised Liverpool for getting the job done after they battled to a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday night.

Liverpool took the lead against the Citizens at Anfield when Georginio Wijnaldum rose highest to head home Adam Lallana’s cross in the eighth minute.

Both Liverpool and City failed to really click into gear at Anfield as chances ended up being few and far between for both sides.

But the Reds held on to claim the three points and keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, former Liverpool captain Gerrard said: “To go and win a league, you’ve got to perform in different ways.

“At the end of the day, it’s three points. It stretches them away from City and keeps them hot on Chelsea’s heels.”

He continued: “I thought the performance was sensational.

“I thought it was almost a Jurgen Klopp masterplan to drop off and let City’s defenders have the ball. I thought they got the game-plan spot on.”

The win left Liverpool in second place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea heading into the new year.
