Steven Gerrard reacts to Mesut Ozil’s display in Arsenal’s 4-1 win at Basel
Steven Gerrard gushes with praise for Mesut Ozil after Arsenal's 4-1 win over Basel in the Champions League
Steven Gerrard admitted that he is a huge admirer of Mesut Ozil after the playmaker helped to inspire Arsenal to a 4-1 win over Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Germany international notched up his fifth assist of the season for the Gunners as he set up Alex Iwobi for Arsenal’s fourth goal in Switzerland as Arsene Wenger’s men topped their Champions League group.
Lucas Perez scored a hat-trick in an impressive display for the north London side as the Gunners were able to capitalise on PSG’s 2-2 draw with Ludogorets in Group A.
Ozil has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most impressive playmakers since his arrival at the club from Real Madrid in 2013.
And former Liverpool captain Gerrard has admitted that he is a big fan of the World Cup winner.
Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle, Gerrard said: “I just love his unselfishness and his awareness. He’s putting them across the six-yard box for people to tap in.
“He’s the type of player you’d love to play with.”
Ozil will be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the north London side return to Premier League action with a home clash against Stoke City on Saturday.
