Steven Gerrard: This is the most exciting thing about Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp

The former Liverpool captain delivers his glowing verdict on Jurgen Klopp's current crop

Steven Gerrard says the most-exciting thing about Liverpool is that Jurgen Klopp’s players look like they should be winning every Premier League game.

The Reds have enjoyed an encouraging start to their bid to win a first Premier League title after finishing in the runners-up spot in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

Liverpool endured a tough start to December after a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth was followed by a 2-2 draw with Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United side.

However, the Merseyside outfit have responded in style in recent weeks after a stylish 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium thanks to Adam Lallana’s influential performance.

Sadio Mane scored a winner in the fourth minute of added time to seal a dramatic 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in what was their final game ahead of Christmas Day.

Liverpool are the Premier League’s leading goal-scorers after netting 35 times in 17 games.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Gerrard explained what he finds really exciting about Klopp’s team.

“I have loved it. I have loved watching them. The exciting thing for me is not so much where they are in the league, or the late derby win, although I did enjoy that.

“The positive thing is they should have won every single game they have played. Yes, they got some things wrong at Burnley and Bournemouth, and have dropped points elsewhere they shouldn’t have.

“But they’ve always looked like they should win. And that’s the most exciting thing for me.

“That tells me we are watching a top Liverpool team here.”
