Steven Gerrard: This is what Arsenal are lacking in the title race
Steven Gerrard believes Arsenal need a couple more game changers in their side, including an in-form Aaron Ramsey
Steven Gerrard insists Arsene Wenger needs a couple more “difference makers” in his Arsenal side in the this season’s title race before adding that Aaron Ramsey needs to rediscover his best form.
The Gunners have made a solid start to the Premier League season after the north London side managed to recover from a 4-3 defeat by title rivals Liverpool in their opening fixture of the 2016-17 season.
Wenger’s men managed to go 14 games unbeaten following that setback at the Emirates Stadium before Arsenal lost 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night to bring that run to an end.
Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock with a deflected free-kick before Seamus Coleman levelled ahead of half-time and Ashley Willian scored a dramatic headed winner in the final minutes of the Premier League clash.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, former Liverpool captain Gerrard discussed what the Gunners are lacking in the Premier League title race.
“I think Arsenal are very close but I do agree that they need one or two more difference makers,” Gerrard told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.
“I think they need Aaron Ramsey back in the form he was in a couple of years ago. He’s still doing OK but he’s got that next level to go up to like he did at the Euros. They need Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi to keep supporting Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Thierry Henry fired the Gunners to the league crown.
