Steven Gerrard: This is what’s changed at Chelsea this season
Steven Gerrard admits that he has been impressed by Chelsea's turnaround under Antonio Conte
Steven Gerrard believes that a change in philosophy has sparked Chelsea’s brilliant form in the Premier League.
The Blues made it an incredible 11 wins in a row in the Premier League on Saturday when they sealed a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace thanks to Diego Costa’s first-half goal.
Chelsea’s brilliant form this season is in stark contrast to their displays last term, when the Blues ended up in 10th place in the table and with their title defence in tatters.
The west London club look to have found a formation that suits them under new manager Antonio Conte.
And Liverpool captain Gerrard has explained what he feels has changed at Stamford Bridge this season since Conte’s arrival.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Saturday, Gerrard said: “They are all talented players but last year they weren’t given all the ingredients you need to perform individually and collectively. This year they’re given it.
“Everyone knew last year when they were lying in 16th place that it was a false position and they were too good to be there but they weren’t showing it week in, week out.
“Now they are and they’re on top of the league.”
Chelsea won the Premier League and League Cup under Jose Mourinho in the 2014-15 season before the Portuguese coach was sacked following their disastrous start to the campaign last term.
